Investment Philosophy

Our philosophy puts you first.

Having lived through the ups and downs of market booms and busts, we know that successful strategies need to both grow and preserve your assets. That’s why protection is a cornerstone of our approach to investing. Whether you are a newer investor who wants to make sure you’ll have enough saved for retirement, a recent retiree looking to preserve a steady income stream, or an institution with specific investment goals, you need a strategy that is designed to work no matter what is happening in the market.

Modern portfolio theory introduced the world to the idea of including negatively and non-correlated assets in our portfolios. That’s why our strategies place importance on offering a greater allocation to the stock markets’ strongest inversely correlated assets. We believe that including U.S. intermediate- to long-term treasuries that tend to go up during stock market drops will help protect portfolios from market downturns. Our goal is to provide strategies that maximize growth in line with your objectives while lowering volatility and providing as much protection as possible against market drops.

Our History

Karp & Associates is a performance- and people-focused independent financial advisory firm that works with institutions as well as small businesses, families, and individual investors who want an experienced guide to help them navigate financial markets and plan for their futures. Founder and President David Karp began his career in financial services in the 1980s, offering fixed annuities to school board employees via their 403b plans. In the next decade, he expanded his business to offer mutual funds and eventually transitioned to work as a fee-only advisor.

When the 2008 financial crisis hit David and his clients, the losses they experienced spurred him to research and develop his own strategies in hopes of protecting them against future market downturns. Now, Karp & Associates continues to offer strategies of David’s design, and he constantly researches and improves his offerings to ensure that his clients feel supported in their financial lives.
